Therapeutic Approach

The Foothills Care therapeutic approach is built around the Core Strengths ModelŪ, a comprehensive, whole person/whole family clinical approach that is integrated into all aspects of Foothills’ program services.

The Core Strengths ModelŪ is an evidenced based therapeutic model that focuses on the five core areas of personal development: Body, Mind, Heart, Spirit and Community. This model is grounded in the principle that children are best raised in their families of origin and is focused on family preservation as a primary goal. The Core Strengths approach is steadfast in its dedication to building upon the positive development that has occurred within the individual and family. It is community based in both its delivery of service approach and theoretical framework.

Services provided within the context of the Core Strengths ModelŪ are dedicated to promoting a positive orientation for the individual and family while identifying and leveraging strengths as a means of building a healthy ideation. Core Strengths Model’sŪ goal focused approach to intervention, facilitates the identification and use of personal and group competencies. Core Strengths Model’sŪ structure process effectively moves individuals and families toward self-sufficiency and healthy interdependence. Progress is validated and confirmed when goals are developed, then attained, while essential skills are consistently and effectively used.

Outcome research is a critical component of the Core Strengths ModelŪ. Extensive data collection, analysis and evaluation are conducted on an ongoing basis within each case, collective unit/program and within other agencies utilizing the Core Strengths ModelŪ. In addition, the Core Strengths ModelŪ is a vital component to the Improving Organizational Performance Program within Foothills Care, Inc.

The Core Strengths ModelŪ is founded on the following Guiding Principles:

  • Within each one of us is the potential for goodness and contribution;
  • People do the best they can with the skills they have;
  • Growth and development is a step-by-step process that is an inner longing within humans;
  • The core of who we are impacts our thoughts, thoughts impact our behavior, behavior impacts our feelings;
  • People grow from relationship;
  • Positive connection with others fosters safety and a platform to develop new thoughts, behavior, and feelings;
  • People have choices to make about the course of their lives;
  • No one else has the right to make decisions for another;
  • People learn best from a positive perspective;
  • Awareness and analysis of the anticipated result will improve the outcome of choice;
  •  People define their own values;
  •  People have a right to have their voice heard;
  •  It is not what happens to us that is the most critical issue;
  •  It is what we do with what happens to us and who we choose to become as a result of what happens to us that is critical;
  •  When people strive to live their life guided by their true voice the result will be peace and integrity.
